Twitter has been ever growing in terms of usage and popularity since its inception. One can receive updates ranging from the latest happenings to Formula 1. For those who don’t know what twitter is:
(Via Wikipedia)Twitter is a social networking and micro-blogging service that enables its users to send and read other users’ updates known as tweets. Tweets are text-based posts of up to 140 bytes in length.
The purpose of this post is to inform you about the various clients available to tweet from your Linux desktop which makes life a little easier. (Some of these clients are OS independent)
1) TweetDeck:
TweetDeck is perhaps the most used twitter client. It installs with AdobeAir and so is OS independent. It features a unique columned interface.
2) Choqok:
Choqok is a simple qt4 twitter client which blends nicely into the KDE4 desktop. It supports Twitter search, direct messages, @replies and multiple accounts.
3) Kde4 plasma widget:
A twitter widget is included in KDE 4.2 widgets package. Its very simple and does not offer all the features of a dedicated client.

4) Gwibber:
Gwibber is a microblogging client for GNOME developed with Python and GTK. It supports multiple networks like Twitter, Jaiku, Identi.ca, Facebook, Flickr, Digg, and RSS.
5) BLT:
This one’s for the command-line lovers out there. It is a set of perl scripts that integrate twitter into BASH.
The possibilities of a command line based client are endless. For example, you an have your web server tweet you about its status!
6) GNOME Do:
Yes, GNOME Do can also update your twitter status. It also indexes Twitter friends for replying, and direct messaging.

Among the above clients, my favourite one is Choqok. That’s because its so simple, light and I use KDE 4.
Your favourite client not mentioned? Drop in a comment to let me know.

Using the same cross-platform AdobeAir base that TweetDeck uses, there are also Spaz and Twhirl, both of which add identi.ca support. Twhirl brings up a separate single-column window for each account you’re logged into simultaneously (twitter, identi.ca, alternate identi.ca login, etc.).
“Old” post, but I was searching around for choqok screenshot samples and figured I’d balance out a couple recent spam replies.
